Retired Member

Retired Membership is for existing RCHM members who have stepped back from clinical practice but wish to remain part of the RCHM community. It is designed to reflect that retirement from practice often happens gradually, offering a standing that matches where the member is now, rather than requiring an all-or-nothing switch out of membership entirely.

Qualification

Available to existing members who are no longer in clinical practice. It is not an entry route into the RCHM in its own right.

Entitlements

Retired Members:

  • Continue to receive RCHM communications

  • Are welcome at events, at the membership rate

  • Remain part of the professional network and community

  • Continue to receive the Journal and newsletters

  • Retain access to the Practitioner Share Group

  • May remain on the Supervisor List for new graduates, if they wish

  • May opt in to a list of retired members available to volunteer for mentoring, events, or other projects

What no longer applies

Because Retired Membership is for those no longer in clinical practice, it does not include the elements tied to active clinical work:

  • No insurance requirement

  • No CPD requirement

  • Not listed on the Register of Practising Members, which is reserved for those currently in clinical practice

  • May not use the MRCHM post-nominal letters

Disclosure to patients or enquirers

Because the Register (and the insurance and CPD framework behind it) is what signals to patients that a practitioner is currently practising and covered, Retired Members are asked to make clear to anyone enquiring about their professional background that Retired Membership is their current standing, and that they are not currently practising.

Returning to practising membership

A Retired Member who wishes to return to practising membership is asked to contact the office to talk through what's involved.

Fee

£50 per year, usually paid by quarterly direct debit.
