Non-Practising Member

Non-Practising Membership is for existing Full UK or Overseas Members who are taking time away from practice, typically for up to 24 months, while remaining connected to the RCHM.

Qualification

Available only to practitioners who already hold Full UK or Overseas Membership and wish to pause their practice for a period of time. It is not an entry route into the RCHM in its own right.

Duration

The standard period is up to 24 months, though this is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Members taking a longer sabbatical are able to do so, provided they let the office know. If time away from practice extends significantly beyond 24 months, the usual expectation is that the member will need to reapply for membership rather than simply resume Non-Practising status.

What changes while on Non-Practising Membership

  • The member does not appear on the Find a Practitioner search facility, and cannot advertise themselves as practising

  • The member must not practise during this period

  • CPD is still required

  • Professional insurance is not required, since the member is not practising

Entitlements

Non-Practising Members retain full access to the benefits that continue to apply while not practising, including:

  • Continued use of the letters MRCHM

  • The RCHM Journal

  • Invitations to member events

  • Regular office newsletters

  • Continued membership status generally

The only substantive change from Full UK or Overseas Membership is that the member is not publicly listed or practising during this period.

Reactivation

The RCHM keeps a Non-Practising Member's details on file throughout, so that when they are ready to resume practice, their Full UK or Overseas Membership can be reactivated straightforwardly, without needing to go through the application process again (unless the absence has been long enough to require reapplication, as above).

Fee

£80 per year.
